Which is why we were excited to help out young Canadian water skier, Jonah Shaffer. Jonah has traveled across the world for competitions and has had his fair share of unexpected roaming bills.
“While I was in Florida a few years ago, I needed to make lots of long distance calls and use my data as there was an issue right before a competition that I had to deal with. I was shocked to come home to a HUGE phone bill!” explains Jonah. “Since then I was always hesitant to use my phone abroad. Sadly, this has prevented me from staying connected with people, which is very important to my success as an athlete.”
We partnered with Jonah through our athlete ambassador program and set him up with KnowRoaming for his trip to Madrid, Spain for the Under-21 World Waterski Championships.
“My first experience using the KnowRoaming [SIM Sticker] was incredible. I didn’t have to worry about finding the nearest McDonalds for Wi-Fi, or having to pay outrageous amounts of money for very limited cell phone use—I was able to call/text anywhere in the world, worry free,” says Jonah.
“Having access to the Internet whenever I needed it was a huge bonus. I was able to update my family, friends, and supporters immediately with up to the minute information on my events, as well as access maps and information on historical artifacts/monuments in the city.”
“Staying connected while abroad is very important to me. It is crucial that I am constantly in contact with my coach, other athletes, family, and my sports psychologist back home,” explains Jonah.
